Senior Farrier – Ashmount Forge
Joe Traynor is a senior farrier within the Ashmount Forge team, Joe comes from a long-established Irish family of farriers and horsemen, with both brothers and an uncle in the profession. He brings a deep background in racing and horsemanship to the programme.
Joe first began working with Ashmount Forge in 2015, after a stint in Australia broadening his experience in international racing. Having returned to Ireland midway through 2016 he returned to the Ashmount Forge team in 2020 and has since remained an integral part of the operation.
Joe is the managing and senior farrier at George Scott Racing, where he is responsible for the day-to-day hoof care and longer-term management of the yard. He also manages the podiatry care for the mares at Lordship Stud.
Joe has been involved in the shoeing of numerous high-class racehorses, including Eldar Eldarov, Teona, Caballo de Mar and Bay City Roller.
Joe is a keen owner himself, with notable success; previously owning a horse that went on to win a local Group 1 in Bahrain. This experience adds further depth to his understanding of racing, ownership and the commercial realities of the sport.
Within Ashmount Forge, Joe is known for his enthusiasm, dedication and technical knowledge. He brings a strong, traditional farriery foundation together with international experience, and plays an important role within the wider team structure supporting trainers, studs.
Alongside his work with Ashmount Forge, Joe runs his own farriery practice, his clients include Newmarket Racecourses.
